Solar panelsSolar Panels are not new, they have been around for over a decade; however, they are now more appealing due to technological advancement and a new push by the government for renewable energy sources. They are one of the best, as well as a major source of alternative energy.

How Do They Work?

Solar panels absorb sunlight (sunrays) and convert it into energy; this is how they work. The solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells (solar cells), and these cells collect the sun rays.  Obviously, during daylight hours that is when they are hard at work. This energy is then converted into electricity. Basically, these cells function like semiconductors. The energy produced from light photons eliminates the electrons, and then free electrons are used to generate power.  Here is some very good information on how solar panels work.

The benefits of solar panels are many, and include the following:

  • They are a renewable energy
  • Solar panels are an independent and efficient source of electricity
  • Free energy source
  • They are non-polluting
  • They do not cause any harm to the planet or its atmosphere
  • Very low maintenance
  • They can last a lifetime if properly maintained
  • And more

The more cells you have in the solar panel, the more energy you will able to save. Thus, solar panels can generate a lot of electricity, and it is completely dependent on how many solar cells are used in the panel.  The more the better, but also more expensive is.

The efficiency of a solar panel cannot be determined easily as it depends on the weather, climate, as well as the number of sunlight hours where it is installed. The solar panels generate more energy when they absorb more sunlight.  If the sky is clear and the panels are getting direct sunlight, then they will definitely generate more energy. The only downside of solar panels is that they cannot produce energy under cloudy skies and at night.

Solar panels are widely available around the globe. This clearly shows that people like these devices due to their benefits and positive aspects. Nowadays, solar panels are given facelifts, to look more pleasing and appealing. As mentioned above, they won’t work in cloudy skies, which demonstrates that a permanent source of energy is necessary in a property, and solar energy should only be considered as an alternative source of energy.

Keep in mind that solar panels don’t work in cloudy skies; however, they work well in partly cloudy weather.  It is a myth that solar panels only work well in perfect sunlight, which is simply not the case. In fact, they don’t need direct sunlight. There is a difference between sunlight and daylight. The PV solar panels need daylight. Yes, it is true that direct sunlight is better, but modern solar panels can also generate energy in a cloudy weather under daylight.
